James Roberson

Lead Pastor

I was born and raised in Westchester, NY. Though I grew up in church, my relationship with God was defined more by praying for wins in football and passing classes in school. It wasn’t until college, that I was introduced to a consistent lifestyle of living for God, through Campus Crusade for Christ. I met my wife, Natarsha, doing college ministry at a leadership conference. We have two daughters; Faith who is six and Leah who is five.

Ministry Experience:

Once my collegiate football career ended, I helped start a campus ministry called IMPACT, geared towards reaching out to the African American community. This experience was a turning point in my life, and I realized the most influential way to change the world was to preach The Gospel. In that moment, I committed my life to ministry.

I enjoy working out, listening to 90s hip-hop, and reading on social and political issues.

Josh Edney

Executive Pastor

I married my wife Jessica in 2010. We met working together at a camp in North Carolina. We moved to Brooklyn in the Summer of 2014 to pursue ministry in an urban context. We have one son, Calvin, who was born four months after we moved to Brooklyn.

Ministry Experience:

I went to college at UNC Charlotte and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. Towards the end of my college experience, I became involved in an on-campus church for college students. After graduation, instead of pursuing a career in the finance industry, I felt called to do ministry with this collegiate church. I spent seven years on staff with this collegiate church. During these seven years, I helped establish financial bookkeeping and forecasting principles. I used simple and repeatable methods to lead missional communities. And I helped implement a discipleship culture to train students to be disciple-makers. We moved to Brooklyn to see a disciple-making movement through young adults and I began serving as the Executive Pastor at Bridge Church in March 2015.

I am an avid professional sports follower. More than just watching, I enjoy the statistical side of the game. I am also a former DJ, so I enjoys connecting with people over various music genres.

Rasool Berry

Teaching Pastor

I am married to the love of my life, Tamica. We have one daughter, Ire’Ana.
I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies and minor in Sociology.

Ministry Experience:

My name means ‘messenger’ in Arabic. It’s fitting because I am passionate about communicating, especially about the Message that God is pursuing reconciliation, peace and redemption in the world through us. I love translating spiritual truths from the Scriptures into the language and ethos of our time, especially to college students and young adults. I have been on staff with Cru for 20 years.

I am passionate about sports, music, cooking and eating, and inspiring people to live in light of eternity.

Steve Canter

Elder Chairman

Me and my wife Jennifer have been married since 1997 and have three daughters, Katie, Maddie, and Michie. Although we relocated to Brooklyn, New York in December 2013, we felt we were “home” since our first time in the city. They love the density of people and diversity of cultures that only an urban context like Brooklyn can provide.

Ministry Experience:

I graduated from Cumberland College and I served as a student pastor and church planter in Cincinnati, Ohio. Besides being an Elder at the Bridge Church, I currently serve as the Send City Missionary for the North American Mission Board (NAMB) overseeing the church planting strategy for NAMB in the city. Throughout my ministry experience, I have focused on developing missionary leaders to provide laborers for the harvest field with a particular burden for urban areas. I played an integral part in establishing the Rebuild Network, a network of churches focused on developing multiethnic leaders for the urban context, while serving as the Northeast director.

In my free time, I love cooking and exploring the city with my family. I also enjoy eating chicken wings and drinking coffee (not at the same time). My favorite Scripture verses are Isaiah 55:8-9.
